About Robert A.

Robert A. Ferris built his legal foundation at Western New England. He earned a J.D. in 2016 after work on Advanced Evidence. Earlier, he completed a B.A. in Political Science in 2006. Those classroom years set the stage for work in courtrooms and consulting rooms rather than in a lecture hall.

His first courtroom posts were on the prosecution side. In 2015 he served as a prosecutor in the Hampden County District Court in Springfield. That role gave him day-to-day experience running cases, handling witnesses and working under the pressures of a busy trial calendar. The next year he shifted to private practice, taking on criminal defense matters and cases involving domestic violence, OUI and assault.

After a year in private practice, Ferris joined Hampshire County Bar Advocates in 2017. He worked there as a criminal defense lawyer and bar advocate, representing clients who needed counsel and court advocacy. In 2018 he moved into a role with the Children and Families Division as a Bar Advocate, handling cases that intersect with family services and child welfare. Those positions placed him on both sides of the docket — representing public interests and individual clients.

Ferris holds admission in Massachusetts and is admitted to appear before the Federal Circuit. He also holds a federal license to practice in federal jurisdictions through the American Bar Association. His credentials include a legal ethics certification from the Board of Bar Examiners and a pro bono certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Bar Overseers reflecting more than 200 hours of public service. The combination of trial work, family-related matters and formal ethics training informs how he approaches courtroom and client issues.

Today he practices as a solo practitioner. He handles criminal defense matters and represents clients in family-related proceedings that require bar advocacy. Colleagues and clients encounter a lawyer who has worked on both prosecution and defense sides, who has handled cases in district court settings and who has logged extensive pro bono hours. His current practice concentrates on criminal defense, domestic violence, OUI and related family law matters.
