About Richard
Richard Symmes built a legal foundation that blends economics, communications and the law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Communications from the University of Washington in 2004. He then completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2008.
He headed into the legal world as a law clerk in 2007 at All Pro Sports & Entertainment. That early experience gave him exposure to client work and transactional detail. In 2009 he held roles at two firms, first as an associate at Balaban & Levinson, P.C., then as a lawyer at Foster Law Group, PC. By 2010 he had founded Symmes Law Group, PLLC and began practicing under that name.
Symmes is licensed to practice in both Washington and Colorado. He also holds a Managing Real Estate Brokers License issued by the Washington State Real Estate Commission. Those credentials reflect a mix of litigation and transactional interests. He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers and the King County Bar Association, memberships he has held since 2010.
Colleagues describe his approach as straightforward. He favors clear explanations over legalese. He has worked on matters that require an understanding of consumer bankruptcy rules and real estate transactions. That combination of consumer bankruptcy affiliation and a state real estate broker license informs how he advises clients who face intertwined debt and property issues.
Clients who come to his office often need practical solutions more than theoretical debate. His background in economics and communications shows up in how he lays out options and consequences. He has experience handling filings, negotiating with creditors, and addressing title or broker-related questions that can complicate cases.
Running a small firm has shaped how he manages cases. He oversees day-to-day operations and handles client work directly. The practice model allows him to move cases forward without multiple layers of review, and it keeps him involved at every stage, from intake to resolution.
Over the years he has maintained active participation in local and national professional groups. Those memberships keep him current on developments in consumer bankruptcy and in Washington state real estate practice. He continues to practice from Symmes Law Group, PLLC and concentrates his work on consumer bankruptcy and real estate matters.
