About Richard M.

Richard M. Karceski holds degrees from two Maryland institutions. He earned a J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1969 and a B.A. from Loyola College in 1996. Those credentials set a foundation for a long career that spans military service, public prosecution and private practice.

Karceski served in the United States Army and held the rank of captain in 1969. After leaving active military service he entered public law work. By 1971 he was serving as an Assistant State’s Lawyer in Baltimore City, handling matters for the local government and gaining courtroom experience early in his career.

He later moved into private practice and became a partner at Silverman Thompson. That role has allowed him to combine trial experience and appellate work. Karceski is admitted to practice in Maryland and in a range of federal venues. His admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, the 4th Circuit, the United States Tax Court and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Those credentials have supported work on matters that reached beyond local courts.

Over the years Karceski has maintained active bar and professional association memberships. He belongs to the Maryland State Bar and holds memberships in both the Howard County and Baltimore County bar associations. He also is a member of the Maryland Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those affiliations reflect a sustained engagement with the legal community in Maryland and at the national level.

Colleagues and clients encountering Karceski find a lawyer whose background includes public-sector prosecution and years of practice in private law. His career path shows a willingness to move between different legal roles and forums. He has spent decades practicing law in Maryland and appearing in federal courts when cases required it.

Today Karceski continues to practice at Silverman Thompson, representing clients in state and federal courts. His current work focuses on litigation across Maryland and in federal venues, including appellate matters and cases presented before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
