About Richard Davis Mattox
Richard Davis Mattox III built his path to the law in classrooms and courtrooms across Virginia. He earned a B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he studied history, political science and real estate and completed his degree in 2008. He then went on to Appalachian School of Law and received his J.D. in 2011. Those years framed a steady progression from undergraduate studies into legal training.
While in law school Mattox gathered practical experience through a series of internships and an externship. In 2009 he worked as a summer intern and as an extern at the Pike County Lawyer’s Office. He returned to Sinnott, Nuckols, and Logan, P.C., for another summer internship in 2010. Those placements exposed him to courtroom procedure and client intake in a small-practice setting.
After law school Mattox entered private practice. He joined Miller Cerasuolo, PLLC as an associate in 2011. Two years later he left to establish his own firm. Since 2013 he has operated Mattox Law, P.C., as a sole practitioner. Running a one-lawyer firm required him to handle both legal work and the business tasks that accompany an independent practice.
Mattox is admitted to practice in Virginia and has been active in organized bar groups since early in his career. He has been a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Bar Association of the City of Richmond since 2011. Those memberships have kept him connected to statewide developments and local legal networks.
Colleagues describe Mattox as methodical and pragmatic in his approach. He has worked in a variety of settings, from county-level public offices to small private firms and then to his own practice. That range of experience has shaped how he manages cases and communicates with clients. He tends to favor clear explanations over legal jargon.
Mattox’s practice is based in Virginia and reflects the accumulated experience of more than a decade in the state’s legal community. He handles matters that arise under Virginia law, and his office addresses both client counseling and litigation tasks as needed. He currently practices at Mattox Law, P.C., where his work focuses on matters arising under Virginia law.
