About Ricardo
Ricardo Alsina read oceanography in a way. He began his formal studies at the University of Miami, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1984. He stayed in South Florida for law school and received his J.D. from St. Thomas University School of Law in 1990. Those academic years set the stage for a career built around courtroom work and maritime disputes.
He is admitted to practice in Florida and before the U.S. Supreme Court. That combination of state and federal credentials has allowed him to handle matters that range from local circuit court disputes to cases that touch federal questions. He also serves as a circuit court mediator under the auspices of the Supreme Court of Florida, an assignment that places him on both sides of the courtroom experience: advocating for clients in trial and guiding parties toward negotiated settlements.
Alsina is a partner at Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman, P.A. He carries the title of trial and maritime lawyer there. His role at the firm involves preparing cases for trial, managing discovery in complex litigation, and representing clients in hearings and at trial. He works on matters that involve maritime incidents, including personal injury and wrongful death claims, as well as broader civil litigation that requires courtroom presence and procedural rigor.
His professional affiliations reflect the procedural and substantive arenas he inhabits. He holds membership in the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Florida Admiralty Trial Lawyers Association. These memberships offer him a network of colleagues across trial practice and maritime law and provide access to continuing legal education that keeps trial techniques and procedural knowledge current.
Colleagues describe his courtroom approach as straightforward. He prepares witnesses to give clear testimony, frames legal issues for judges and juries in plain terms, and structures pleadings to anticipate procedural challenges. In mediation, he draws on that same preparation to evaluate settlement postures and to test legal theories against practical outcomes. That dual experience—trial advocacy and mediation—shapes how he assesses risk and advises clients.
Outside the courtroom, Alsina’s background in Florida legal circles and his long tenure at a firm known for maritime work give him a perspective on how local practice and federal maritime law intersect. He appears in state courts regularly and files cases that can implicate admiralty principles, depending on the facts. He continues to participate in bar activities and in educational programs tied to trial and admiralty subjects.
He currently practices at Lipcon, Margulies, Alsina & Winkleman, P.A., and his practice centers on maritime and trial litigation.
