About Rebecca J
Rebecca J Colson has built a multi-state practice over a career spanning more than three decades. She is admitted to practice in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. Her work has centered on family law matters and she operates out of Colson Family Law, P.A.
Colson earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 1994 after completing a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Memphis in 1991. Those years established the academic foundation she carried into private practice.
Her first position after law school was in 1991 at the Law Office of Wanda W. Cross, where she began handling client matters and learning the routines of daily practice. By 1997 she had returned to Waldrop & Associates, PC, a firm she would work with in later years as well. Early litigation and client counseling experiences shaped how she approaches cases today.
In 2000 Colson opened the Law Office of Rebecca J. Farris, taking on the responsibilities of managing a practice and representing clients directly. She rejoined Waldrop & Associates, PC in 2006 and later worked at the Law Office of Jody A. Greene starting in 2016. Those years included courtroom practice and negotiated resolutions in family law disputes.
In 2019 she began practicing under Colson Family Law, P.A. The firm handles divorce, child custody and support matters, along with related family court issues. Colson’s daily work involves filing pleadings, attending hearings, and negotiating settlements. She represents clients in state courts across the three jurisdictions where she holds licenses.
Professional involvement has been part of her practice life. She has served as a Barrister in the Florida Family Law Inn of Court since 2019. She holds membership in the Nassau County Bar and has been an Associate of the Robert M. Foster Inn of Court since 2016. These affiliations reflect ongoing ties to the local legal communities where she practices.
Colson’s approach blends courtroom experience and negotiated solutions. She spends time preparing cases for trial when necessary and seeks practical outcomes when settlement is possible. Her practice emphasizes family law matters for individuals and families in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.
She currently practices family law at Colson Family Law, P.A., representing clients in Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.
