About Randy
Randy Wagner studied law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he completed his legal education before beginning his work in criminal defense. His time in law school was followed quickly by hands-on courtroom exposure. Early practical training shaped how he approaches cases today.
He began his professional path as a law clerk in 2011 at the San Diego County Public Defender's Office. That role placed him inside a busy public defender environment and gave him regular contact with trial preparation and client interviews. A year later he moved into private practice as an associate at the Law Office of Stephen Brodsky. The shift from a public defender's office to a smaller private firm offered a contrast in caseload and courtroom strategy.
In 2014 he opened Wagner Defense Law Office. Running his own practice required him to take on both casework and the administrative demands of a firm. He has handled arraignments, negotiated pleas, and represented clients at hearings. His background spans public defense work and private criminal defense representation, and he draws on both types of experience when advising clients.
Wagner is active in local professional circles. He participates in the San Diego County Bar Association's New Lawyer Division. That involvement keeps him connected to peers and to continuing education opportunities. It also means he contributes in forums aimed at lawyers early in their careers.
Colleagues and clients describe him as practical and direct in his courtroom communication. He tends to favor clear explanation of charges and options over legal jargon. He approaches arraignments and pretrial motions with an eye toward resolving issues efficiently when possible, and toward preparing for trial when that is necessary.
He practices criminal defense in California. His work covers the kinds of matters typically handled by criminal defense lawyers, from initial representation through disposition. He maintains an active practice in the jurisdiction where he began his career and continues to accept clients in criminal matters.
He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense matters in California.
