About Ralph
Ralph Slater studied political science as an undergraduate and stayed in Southern California for law school. He earned a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University in 1974 and a J.D. from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles in 1979. Those years set the course for a career concentrated on civil litigation.
Fresh out of law school he joined Butler, Jefferson & Dan as an associate in 1979. The early work was typical of a young plaintiff’s attorney: drafting pleadings, taking depositions, and watching trials. He stayed in that role long enough to learn the mechanics of courtroom practice and file work that underpins later trial strategy.
In 1984 he opened the Law Office of Ralph Slater and began handling personal injury matters as principal counsel. Over time his caseload has included motor vehicle collisions, premises liability claims, and other personal injury disputes. He has handled cases from initial client contact through settlement negotiations, and in some instances to verdict.
Slater is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He maintains membership in the Consumer Attorneys of California and the Butte County Bar Association. Those professional ties keep him connected to developments in state law and local practice norms.
Colleagues describe him as the sort of lawyer who prefers to let results speak. He approaches cases in a methodical way. He prepares for depositions and trials with careful attention to factual detail and applicable law. That preparation shapes how he evaluates settlement offers and whether to proceed to trial.
Over four decades in practice have taught him the practical side of handling injury claims: managing medical records, working with expert witnesses, and communicating with insurance adjusters. He has represented individuals seeking compensation after injuries and has navigated the procedural steps that often determine whether a case advances.
His office has routinely handled the full lifecycle of personal injury litigation. The focus has been on achieving recovery for clients through negotiation and, when needed, litigation in state and federal courts permitted by his admissions.
He continues to operate the Law Office of Ralph Slater, representing people in personal injury matters and handling related litigation in California and before the Ninth Circuit.
