About Rajiv P.

Rajiv P. Patel built a path that crosses laboratory benches and courtroom benches. He started on an engineering track and then added law to his training. That combination shapes how he approaches technical disputes and patent work.

Patel earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University–Camden. He then went on to Franklin Pierce Law Center, where he completed both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Intellectual Property. The two degrees gave him legal training grounded in the technical realities of modern inventions.

Early in his legal career Patel joined Fenwick & West LLP. At that firm he worked alongside colleagues on matters that required both a command of patent doctrine and an understanding of engineering detail. His background in electrical engineering allowed him to read technical specifications closely and to ask precise questions of inventors and experts.

Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in California followed. Those credentials let him handle patent prosecution and related proceedings at the federal level and advise clients on state-law concerns that intersect with intellectual property. He has handled filings and responses at the USPTO and assisted in preparing patent applications that reflect the technical elements of designs and systems.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing patent applications and practical in advising on next steps after office actions. He tends to break complex technical subject matter into clear claim language and to map legal strategy to a client’s development timeline. That approach suits clients who are developing products and need patent protection that aligns with engineering milestones.

Outside the office he maintains ties to the technical community built during his undergraduate studies and early professional life. He keeps up with developments in electrical engineering that affect patentability questions and continues to read technical literature closely alongside legal sources.

In practice he draws on both degrees to advise clients on patent prosecution, USPTO proceedings, and related intellectual property issues in California. He currently practices patent law, handling intellectual property matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and in California.
