About Rachel Lynn

Rachel Lynn Smick built her legal education between California and Ohio. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2009 and completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Akron School of Law in 2015. Her coursework and early training combined writing, research and practical legal skills.

She entered the legal profession immediately after law school. In 2015 she worked as a law clerk for Orange Energy Corporation, where she handled research and supported transactional and regulatory matters. That same year she served as an associate lawyer at Joseph A. Kacyon, Lawyer at Law LLC, taking on civil matters for clients in Ohio. In 2016 she joined Hoover Kacyon, LLC as an associate lawyer and continued to develop her practice there.

Her professional affiliations reflect an ongoing involvement in the legal community. She is a member of the Akron Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association. Those memberships point to regular engagement with local and national professional conversations and continuing legal education opportunities.

Colleagues describe Smick as thorough in her written work and methodical in courtroom preparation. Her background in English literature informs her approach to drafting pleadings and briefs. She has experience in civil litigation and in matters that touch on energy and corporate concerns from her time at Orange Energy Corporation. She has worked on discovery, motion practice and client counseling in state-level proceedings in Ohio.

Smick’s practice history is compact but focused. Moving from a corporate clerkship to small firm associate roles gave her exposure to both transactional documentation and contested matters. That range has allowed her to advise clients on practical next steps and to prepare cases for trial when necessary. She maintains familiarity with Ohio procedural rules and local practice in Akron and surrounding jurisdictions.

At Hoover Kacyon, LLC she continues to represent individuals and businesses in matters filed in Ohio courts. Her work combines research, written advocacy and client counseling. She balances courtroom readiness with efforts to resolve disputes efficiently. She currently concentrates her practice on civil litigation and energy-related matters in Ohio.
