About R. Michael
R. Michael Shickich began his legal path after earning a J.D. from The University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 1985, following a bachelor’s degree in government from Oberlin College in 1978. The combination of a liberal arts background and legal training shaped an early interest in courtroom work and case development. He entered practice at a large Denver firm in 1985, taking on responsibilities common to associate lawyers of that era.
His first legal position was as an associate at Holme, Roberts & Owen in Denver. He moved west to New Mexico and became a shareholder at Montgomery & Andrews, P.A. in 1988. Those years included litigation and client counseling across state lines, and they led to a longer tenure in private practice and eventual leadership roles. In 1997 he served of counsel at Winship & Winship, P.C. in Casper, Wyoming, before founding his own firm in 2002.
Outside the law, he spent time early in his career as an auctioneer and art appraiser for C.G. Sloan & Co., Inc. in Washington, D.C., in 1980. That period offered an unexpected grounding in valuation and evidence, skills that surfaced later in damage analysis and expert testimony. The move into trial work drew on those practical experiences as much as on formal legal training.
He founded the Law Offices of R. Michael Shickich, LLC, doing business as Injury Law Office, in 2002 and has led that practice as president. He has been active in trial education and bar organizations for decades. He is a graduate and current faculty member of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College since 2010, and he has been involved in the Wyoming Trial Lawyers College people’s law school as an instructor since 1999. He served in leadership positions for the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association from 2001 through 2004, including secretary/treasurer, vice president and president. He has maintained memberships in the American Trial Lawyers Association/American Association for Justice, the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association, the New Mexico Bar Association and, previously, the Colorado Bar Association.
He is admitted to practice in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and before the Tenth Circuit. His practice has emphasized trial preparation and personal injury litigation, drawing on long experience in contested matters. He continues to manage cases through trial at the Injury Law Office and handles appeals when they arise, concentrating his current practice on personal injury litigation.
