About Peter S.
Peter S. Lubin began his academic path at Dartmouth College, earning an A.B. in 1980. He continued at the University of Chicago Law School, where he received his J.D. in 1983. Those years set the stage for a career that has combined courtroom work and legal education.
Early on he moved into litigation. Over time he gained admission to practice in a wide range of federal and state forums. His admissions include the U.S. Supreme Court, several U.S. Courts of Appeals (Second, Third, Fifth, Seventh, Tenth, Eleventh and D.C. Circuits) and district courts such as the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois, the Southern District of Illinois and the District of Maryland. That reach reflects steady involvement in matters that cross state and federal lines.
Lubin is a partner at Lubin Austermuehle, P.C. He has also been associated with the Chicago Overtime Law Center. His practice has long involved trial work. He brings that courtroom experience into the classroom as well. At the University of Chicago Law School’s Mandel Legal Aid Clinic he serves as a trial practice teacher, guiding law students through the practical demands of litigation.
Professional membership and committee work have been a constant part of his career. He maintains memberships in the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association. He is active in the Chicago Council of Lawyers and has been involved with its Committee on Professional Responsibility. He also belongs to the Markey-Wigmore Chapter of the American Inns of Court. At his alma mater he has participated on the Visiting Committee for the University of Chicago Law School.
Colleagues describe Lubin as someone who moves comfortably between courtroom advocacy and legal instruction. He has handled matters in trial courts and taken cases before appellate panels. His teaching at the Mandel Clinic ties those strands together; students get exposure to courtroom procedure and litigation strategy from a practitioner who still appears in federal and state courts.
He continues to practice at Lubin Austermuehle, P.C., appearing in federal and state courts across multiple circuits and teaching trial practice at the University of Chicago Law School’s Mandel Legal Aid Clinic.
