About Peter Alan

Peter Alan Mankin is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1975. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Mankin is the principal at Mankin Mediation Services, a firm located in Orinda, California. He has been practicing law for over 50 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding regions.

Mr. Mankin earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1975. During his time at USF Law, he was a member of the Law Review from 1972 to 1975. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Social Science in 1970.

Mr. Mankin concentrates his practice in the areas of mediation and arbitration, with a focus on real estate and business disputes. He has handled hundreds of mediations, both private and court-appointed, and has extensive experience in resolving conflicts related to real estate transactions, business formations, and contractual agreements. His practice encompasses all stages of dispute resolution, including initial case evaluation, negotiation, mediation, and arbitration proceedings.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mankin has been admitted to practice before several courts, including the California state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also served as a mediator and arbitrator for the Contra Costa County Superior Court and has been a member of the Contra Costa Superior Court ADR Oversight Committee from 2008 to 2023.

Mr. Mankin is an active member of the State Bar of California, where he served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee from 2008 to 2011 and chaired the Mandatory Fee Arbitration and Mediation Committee from 1995 to 1996. He is also a member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, having served as its president in 1998 and as chair of the Fee Arbitration and Mediation Program from 1990 to 1997. Additionally, he has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyer from 2006 to 2025 and holds an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Mankin is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area effectively.
