About Paul Nathan
Paul Nathan Puri studied comparative literature at the University of California, Davis before shifting to the study of law. He completed his undergraduate degree in 1992 and earned his J.D. from the University of the Pacific in 1996. The sequence suggests a patient, deliberate change in direction. It also left him with an unusual combination: a background in close reading and the formal training of a lawyer.
After law school Puri entered private practice. Records show he established Puri Law Offices in 2003 and has operated as lawyer and owner since then. Running a small firm for more than two decades means handling many of the roles that come with modern legal practice: client intake, case strategy, courtroom appearances, and the administrative tasks of managing a business.
Puri is admitted to practice in California, before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions expand the range of matters he can accept. They allow him to file appeals in federal appellate venues and to appear in the nation’s highest court when appropriate.
Colleagues and court filings depict a practitioner who relies on careful legal writing and methodical preparation. His undergraduate training in comparative literature is evident in that work. The habit of close textual analysis often shows up in briefing and in the way he frames legal questions for judges.
Over the years Puri has handled litigation and appellate matters from his firm. He represents clients in hearings and filings across state and federal forums. Managing a solo or small-firm practice has also required him to adapt to shifting court procedures and evolving rules of civil practice. The work demands both oral advocacy on short notice and sustained drafting over longer periods.
Puri’s career is characterized by steady practice rather than public-facing positions or widely publicized cases. He maintains the licenses that permit practice at multiple court levels and has continued to operate his firm through the changes of the last two decades. He currently practices at Puri Law Offices, accepting matters in California and in the federal appellate courts where he is admitted.
