Paul Joseph Backofen is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1996. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Backofen is the founder of The Law Office of Paul Backofen, a law firm located in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He has been practicing law for over 29 years, serving clients throughout Southern California.
Mr. Backofen earned his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1980. During his time at Southwestern, he focused on intellectual property law, particularly patent and trademark prosecution.
Mr. Backofen concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property law, including patents and trademarks. He represents individuals and businesses in matters involving patent protection for technologies ranging from military electronics and communication systems to medical devices and digital cinema. His practice encompasses all stages of intellectual property prosecution, including initial case evaluation, patent application preparation, and client counseling on IP management strategies.
Throughout his career, Mr. Backofen has handled cases in various jurisdictions, including the United States District Court for the Central District of California and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has also appeared before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in matters related to patent and trademark applications. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked as an associate at Brunell & Associates and later joined the Intellectual Property department of Irell & Manella LLP for six years.
Mr. Backofen is an active member of the California State Bar and has been practicing law for over 29 years. He is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. In addition to his legal practice, he is involved in community activities related to technology and innovation. Mr. Backofen is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
