About Paul John
Paul John Toland is a Massachusetts attorney who combines courtroom experience and immigration practice in a small-firm setting. He earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Rochester in 2009 and completed his J.D. at Massachusetts School of Law in 2012. Those academic years set the stage for a career that has moved between public service and private practice.
He began prosecutorial work soon after law school. In 2013 he joined the Worcester County District Attorney's Office as an assistant district lawyer. There he handled criminal matters in local courts, worked with investigators, and gained regular trial exposure. The work gave him a practical sense of how cases move from charge to resolution.
After a stint in the public sector, Toland moved into private practice. In 2016 he served as an attorney at Rubin Pomerleau, P.C., where he continued to handle criminal defense matters and courtroom proceedings. Two years later he joined Jeff Goldman Immigration, taking on immigration cases and learning the procedural and advocacy skills specific to that area of law. Those roles broadened his practice and introduced more cross-over work between criminal and immigration issues.
In 2019 Toland founded Toland Law, LLC. He operates under the business name Toland Law, Criminal Defense & Immigration Law Office. The firm handles criminal defense and immigration matters for clients in Massachusetts. Toland's professional memberships include the American Immigration Lawyers Association New England Chapter, the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Massachusetts Bar Association. These groups keep him connected to developments in both criminal law and immigration policy.
Colleagues describe Toland as a lawyer who balances courtroom readiness with case-management work. He has experience preparing cases for trial, negotiating pleas, and managing administrative immigration filings. His background in a district attorney's office informs how he approaches defense strategy, and his time at an immigration practice adds procedural familiarity for noncitizen clients.
Toland maintains an active practice in Massachusetts, operating his own firm since 2019 and taking cases that involve intersections of criminal law and immigration law. He handles both trial-level defense and immigration representation from his office in Massachusetts.
