About Paul

Paul Hyl moved from studying human behavior to arguing legal questions. He earned a B.S. in psychology from Dowling College in 1996 and then enrolled at St. John’s University School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1999. The shift from psychology to law shaped the start of his professional life.

After law school he entered private practice. He is an attorney at Genser Dubow Genser & Cona. His membership in the New York State Bar allows him to practice in New York courts. Colleagues describe him as steady and practical in the office; clients see him as matter-of-fact when discussing case details.

Hyl’s academic background offers a clear sequence: undergraduate study of psychological principles followed by formal legal training. That combination gives him particular familiarity with interviewing witnesses and managing client conversations. He draws on those skills in daily legal tasks, whether drafting pleadings, handling discovery, or preparing witnesses for testimony.

At Genser Dubow Genser & Cona he works alongside attorneys who handle a variety of civil matters. He contributes to trials and motions and participates in the development of case strategy. His role has him interacting often with other counsel, experts, and insurers. The office setting demands both written precision and an ability to explain complicated topics succinctly. Hyl’s education and experience support that work.

He maintains professional ties through the New York State Bar. That membership keeps him connected to continuing legal education and regulatory updates. It also provides the kind of professional network that attorneys use when facing unfamiliar issues or seeking co-counsel.

Outside the courtroom, Hyl remains grounded in the detail-oriented habits he developed during his undergraduate and law studies. He approaches new matters by first reviewing the factual record and then testing legal theories against it. He prefers a methodical process: gather the facts, identify the issues, and map the procedural path forward.

Now practicing at Genser Dubow Genser & Cona, he handles legal work in New York. His current practice focuses on the matters assigned to him by the firm and on serving clients through the office’s civil practice work.
