About James Henry

James Henry Dunne built a professional life that crosses academia, mediation, and private practice. He entered law after advanced study in the humanities and social sciences. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Hofstra University in 1990, a Master of Arts from New York University in 1995, and a Juris Doctor from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2005.

After law school he gained admission to the New York bar and secured the right to appear in federal court in both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Those admissions allowed him to handle matters that move between state and federal fora. His courtroom filings and appearances are part of a practice that has long included commercial matters and disputes that touch on local business concerns.

Dunne has balanced practice with teaching. He serves as a professor of Business Law & Entrepreneurship at the New York Institute of Technology. There he teaches law students and graduate candidates about contracts, corporate structure, and the legal issues entrepreneurs face when starting and scaling ventures. The academic post keeps him close to developments in business law and exposes him to new thinking from students and colleagues.

Outside the classroom he has formal training and recognition as a mediator. He appears on the Suffolk County Roster of Commercial Division Mediators maintained by the New York Supreme Court. That credential signals regular participation in commercial mediations on Long Island and elsewhere in the state. He also serves as pro bono general counsel to the Long Island Hospitality Association, advising an industry where contracts, licensing and employment issues frequently collide. Memberships in the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association and the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce round out his professional affiliations.

In private practice he operates under the Law Offices of James Henry Dunne, Esq. The firm handles a mix of business-related legal work, dispute resolution, and counseling for local enterprises and entrepreneurs. His background in both teaching and mediation shapes how he approaches client matters: practical, procedural, and attentive to the business context. As of 2026 he continues to maintain his practice and his teaching role while taking on mediation panels and association responsibilities, concentrating his work on business law, commercial disputes, and mediation services.
