About Paul
Paul Epstein built a career that bridges courtroom work, teaching and public service. He completed his law degree at the University of New Hampshire School of Law in 1981 after earning a master’s degree in criminal justice from American International College in 1978 and a bachelor’s in criminology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. Those academic credentials framed an early interest in criminal law and trial practice.
He began his legal career in public service. In 1984 he served as an assistant district lawyer in the Essex County district attorney’s office. A year earlier he had been a clinical instructor at Harvard Law School, giving him a taste for training young lawyers while remaining engaged in active litigation. By 1987 he was working at the Law Offices of Robert T. Karns, taking on cases that further developed his courtroom experience.
The 1990s brought partnership roles. He was a partner and chief litigation lawyer at the Law Offices of Spillane & Epstein, P.C., where he took lead roles in complex civil matters. In 2001 he became partner and chief litigation lawyer at the Law Offices of Epstein, Lipsey & Clifford, P.C. That move kept him in a central litigation role, managing trials and supervising case strategy. In 2008 his title shifted to Of Counsel at the same firm, a position he holds as he continues to work on litigation matters.
Epstein’s memberships trace a steady engagement with trial lawyer communities. He has belonged to the American Association for Justice and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Lawyers since 1985. He is also a member of the Plymouth County Bar Association, holding that membership since 2000. Those affiliations connect him to continuing education, peer networks and trial practice developments across the state.
Throughout his career he has been most often identified with litigation. His resume shows repeated responsibility for leading trials, supervising other attorneys and advising clients on contested matters. He has moved between public prosecution and private practice, bringing experience from both sides of the courtroom to civil and criminal disputes.
Colleagues and clients have counted on his steadiness in trial preparation and courtroom advocacy. He combines years of hands-on courtroom work with time spent mentoring younger lawyers. He currently serves as Of Counsel at Law Offices of Epstein, Lipsey & Clifford, P.C., where he handles civil litigation matters.
