About Paul C.
Paul C. Galanides earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1995 after beginning law studies in 1992. He entered the profession in the mid-1990s and built experience on both sides of the courtroom. His legal training in Kentucky set the stage for a career that has crossed state lines and appellate boundaries.
He began work as an assistant public defender in 1995 with the Lexington-Fayette County Legal Aid (Public Defender) Association. That early trial experience was followed by a move into government litigation. In 1998 he served in the Special Prosecution Division of the Office of the Lawyer General in Kentucky. By 2001 he had joined the Office of the Lawyer General in Virginia, working in the Criminal Appeals Division and participating in the Capital Appeals Unit through 2006. He later served as an assistant Commonwealth’s lawyer for Henrico County beginning in 2005.
Galanides has alternated between public service and private practice. He opened the Law Office of Paul C. Galanides as principal in 2014. In 2016 he worked as an associate to Joe Morrissey at Morrissey and Associates. Two years later he joined Carlson & Collier as an associate and resumed his principal role at his own firm in 2018. Those moves reflect a career spent handling both prosecution and defense matters, and moving between trial work and appellate litigation.
Professional affiliations have tracked that mixed practice. He held membership in the Capital Appeals Unit from 2001 to 2006 and in the Henrico County Bar Association from 2005 to 2016. He was active in the Sts. Helen and Constantine Greek Orthodox Cathedral community from 2003 to 2006. Since 2018 he has been a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
His admitted jurisdictions include Kentucky and Virginia, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions align with his work in criminal appeals and in roles that required appellate briefing and oral argument. He has experience on both sides of criminal matters, encompassing trial-level defense and prosecution as well as appellate filings.
He currently practices at the Law Office of Paul C. Galanides, concentrating on criminal defense and appellate litigation.
