About Patrick J
Patrick J Cooper built his path to law starting at Pennsylvania State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science in 2001. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2009. Those formative years settled a practical approach to practice that he has carried into his work as a lawyer and mediator.
He began his legal career in 2009 as an associate at Lavin, O'Neil, Ricci, Cedrone & DiSipio. The following year he moved to Sadek Law Offices, LLC as an associate attorney. Early on he handled client counseling and courtroom matters, gaining experience in family court procedure and case management.
In 2013 he became a partner at Sadek & Cooper, a role he held for a decade. At Sadek & Cooper he took on a broader caseload and greater management responsibilities. He served on the executive committee of the Nicholas A. Cipriani American Inn of Court beginning in 2013 and maintained active bar association memberships including the Philadelphia Bar Association and its Family Law Section, as well as the American Bar Association since 2009.
In 2023 he opened Cooper Family Law, LLC, where he practices as a lawyer and mediator. He maintains offices in Center City and in Delaware County. His work in mediation is a regular part of his practice; he brings parties together to explore settlement options outside the courtroom and to narrow issues when litigation is necessary.
Throughout his career Cooper has handled typical family law matters such as divorce, child custody and support, and property division. He also deals with prenuptial agreements and post-judgment matters, and he represents clients at settlement conferences and hearings. Colleagues note a case-first posture in his approach: he prepares for litigation but looks for negotiated resolutions when they serve clients' interests. He remains active in local bar groups and in the Inn of Court, continuing to participate in professional programs and panels. He now operates Cooper Family Law, LLC, where his practice centers on family law and mediation.
