About P. Timothy

P. Timothy Kelly began his legal path at the University of Scranton, where he earned a B.S. in Business Management in 1979. He went on to receive his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law in 1982. Those academic years set the stage for a career that has spanned federal and state trial work and numerous leadership roles in bar organizations.

He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the Middle District of Pennsylvania. After law school he entered private practice and has spent much of his career trying civil cases. His name appears in connection with Needle Law Office, where he has practiced in recent years.

Kelly holds certification as a Civil Trial Advocate from the National Board of Trial Advocacy. That credential sits alongside longstanding memberships in trial-oriented groups. He has been a member of the American Association for Justice and the Pennsylvania Association for Justice since 1982. He joined the National Academy of Elder Law Lawyers in 1995 and has been a fellow of the Roscoe Pound Institute since 2000.

His involvement in organized bar work runs deep. He has served on an Amicus Curiae Committee since 2003 and on a Board of Governors since 2001. He has been in the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association since 2004. He served as past chair of a Worker’s Compensation Section from 2008 to 2009 and returned to a leadership role as cochair of that section beginning in 2015. In 2006 he became president of the Northeast Pennsylvania chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a post he continues to hold. He has also been active in the National Trial Lawyers since 2011.

Awards and community service punctuate his résumé. In 2010 he received the George F. Douglas Amicus Curiae Award for Outstanding Appellate Advocacy. He served on the Board of Directors of Northern Pennsylvania Legal Services, Inc. from 1990 to 2000, and he took part in Trial Lawyers Care benefiting victims of the World Trade Center disaster between 2001 and 2003. His affiliations have at times included the Federal Bar Association from 1999 to 2003.

Colleagues describe him as a trial lawyer who has built a career around courtroom work, appellate advocacy and bar leadership. He practices at Needle Law Office. His practice centers on civil trial matters and workers' compensation cases.
