About Orin
Orin Kurtz began his professional life studying music. He earned a B.S. in Jazz Studies from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1998, then turned to law and completed a J.D. at New York Law School in 2004. The move from performance to practice shaped an approach that mixes preparation and improvisation.
After law school he joined Abbey Spanier, LLP, starting his legal career in 2004. He cut his teeth in litigation there, handling the day-to-day work of preparing cases for trial and motion practice. That early period introduced him to the pace and demands of courtroom practice and appellate briefing.
In 2013 he became a partner at Gardy & Notis, LLP. As a partner he took on larger caseloads and assumed greater responsibility for strategy and client oversight. He appears in state and federal courts and manages litigation teams on complex matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing filings and deliberate in courtroom settings.
Kurtz is admitted in New York and holds admissions to several federal venues. They include the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions allow him to handle cases that move from trial court to appellate review and to accept matters that require national filings.
He maintains memberships in the Federal Bar Council and the New York State Bar Association. These professional ties keep him engaged with developments in procedure and appellate practice and provide access to CLE and peer networks that inform litigation strategy.
