About Nikol
Nikol Litvan began her legal path with studies at George Washington University’s Mount Vernon campus before completing her law degree at the University of North Carolina School of Law. She arrived in law school with an interest in criminal defense and youth justice and pursued opportunities that put her in courtrooms and clinics rather than classrooms alone.
While at UNC School of Law, Litvan served as a student lawyer in the Youth Justice Clinic. That clinic work had her handling client meetings and courtroom appearances under supervision. It also shaped her view of how the legal system affects young people and families. She supplemented clinic work with several internships that offered different perspectives on criminal defense and federal practice.
Litvan’s internships include placements with the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of North Carolina and with public defender offices in Guilford County and Orange & Chatham County. She spent time as a judicial intern for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where she observed federal court processes from the bench. Another summer brought experience at a private firm, Luff Strenfel, giving her exposure to defense work in a different setting.
The sequence of clerkships and internships exposed Litvan to trial preparation, plea negotiations, and the practical mechanics of defending clients at both state and federal levels. She also earned a certification in DUI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That certification complements her courtroom and clinic experience and signals practical training in traffic and DUI issues.
After law school, Litvan joined Minick Law, P.C. as an associate lawyer. In that role she has handled client intake, drafted motions, prepared for hearings, and participated in trial work alongside other attorneys. Her background in public defender offices and federal defender settings informs how she approaches case strategy and client communication in private practice.
Litvan is a member of the State Bar of North Carolina and is licensed to practice in North Carolina. She maintains contacts across public defender offices and federal defender resources from her earlier internships, which she draws on when building a defense. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparation and direct in the courtroom.
She is currently practicing at Minick Law, P.C., where her work includes criminal defense and traffic-related matters, including DUI cases.
