About Nicolas
Nicolas Nelson began his path to law after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Luther College in 2002 and a Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2008. He finished law school and moved into legal work quickly. Early roles combined public service and practical training that shaped his approach to practice and client work.
While still early in his career he served as a law clerk for Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services in 2006. That same year he worked as a producer for Minnesota Wild radio broadcasts, a role outside the courtroom that gave him experience in communications and public-facing work. After law school he held a partner role at Nelson Law Offices in 2008 and then joined Keay & Costello, P.C. as an associate in 2010.
In 2015 he opened The Law Offices of Nicholas Nelson. That move marked a shift back toward running his own practice. Over the years his professional base has shifted but his work continued to engage local bar groups and county committees. He is licensed to practice in Illinois and is active in his local legal community.
Nelson has been a visible presence in DuPage County legal circles. He chaired the DuPage County Bar Association Judges Night Committee from 2014 through 2021. He also served as vice chair of the DCBA Real Estate Committee from 2017 to 2018 and then as chair of that committee from 2018 to 2019. He holds memberships in the Kane County Bar Association and several DuPage County committees, including Family Law, Civil Law, and Estate Planning.
Those committee roles reflect the range of matters that have become part of his practice. His work touches family law, real estate, estate planning and civil litigation. Clients and colleagues see a lawyer who combines courtroom experience with familiarity in county-level procedure and committee work. He has balanced solo practice responsibilities with contributions to the professional community through committee leadership and membership.
He now practices under the NN Legal Group banner. The office handles matters tied to the committee areas he has long been involved in, and he remains engaged with county bar activities. He currently practices at NN Legal Group, handling family law, real estate, estate planning and civil matters.
