About Nicholas

Nicholas Bielat blends technical training and law in work that centers on patents and intellectual property. He earned two bachelor's degrees in 2010 from the University of Arizona, one in Optical Engineering and the other in Engineering Management. He returned to the University of Arizona for law school and received his J.D. in 2014.

Early in law school he took roles that bridged technology and legal practice. In 2013 he served as a student research fellow in the university's Office of Technology Transfer, helping to evaluate inventive concepts and the processes that move university inventions toward commercialization. In 2015 he was a fellow with the University of Arizona Mortgage & Consumer Finance Group, a position that added regulatory and consumer finance exposure to his background.

After law school he moved into patent practice. Records show he began work as a patent lawyer at Hayes Soloway PC in 2016. He also became a registered practitioner before the United States Patent and Trademark Office that year, a credential that authorizes him to represent inventors and companies in obtaining patents. He is admitted to practice in Arizona and in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona.

Bielat’s technical foundation informs the way he handles patent matters. His training in optical engineering and systems management gives him a practical grasp of mechanical and optical inventions, and of the development lifecycle that turns prototypes into products. He drafts and prosecutes patent applications and advises clients about patentability, claim scope and prosecution strategy. He also works on opinion work and related counseling tied to patent clearance and portfolio management.

Peers and clients encounter a lawyer who explains technical concepts in plain terms. He is comfortable discussing circuit layouts and optical systems, while also outlining the legal choices that shape a patent file. His prior roles at the university technology transfer office and as a research fellow give him context on how academic innovation moves into industry licensing and commercialization.

He practices at Hayes Soloway PC. He is a registered patent practitioner before the USPTO and is admitted in Arizona and in the federal district where he handles matters. He currently practices patent law at Hayes Soloway PC, handling patent prosecution and counseling for technology clients.
