About Nakeina
Nakeina Cane is an Indiana lawyer who built a career that crosses prosecution, teaching and private practice. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and later a juris doctorate from the University of Louisville. Those credentials set the stage for work in both courtrooms and classrooms.
Her legal education was followed by work inside a busy county prosecutor’s office. In 2012 she served as a deputy prosecuting lawyer for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. That role put her on the front lines of criminal casework and courtroom procedure. She handled filings and appearances that required quick judgment and familiarity with local court rules.
Cane also spent time in academe. In 2015 she taught as an adjunct instructor at Indiana Wesleyan University. Students remember instructors who bring practical experience into the classroom. Her background in prosecution gave her material to draw on when explaining criminal justice process and evidence-related topics.
She later added mediation to her toolbox. Cane is a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator, certified through the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum. That credential signals formal training in resolving family disputes outside the courtroom. It also complements the litigation experience she developed earlier in her career.
In 2019 she began practicing under the name Cane Legal, LLC. The firm serves clients in Indiana and reflects a transition from public service to private practice. Running a small firm has meant managing casework as well as the business side of law. Her time in the prosecutor’s office and as a mediator informs how she approaches negotiations, hearings and client counseling.
Cane maintains memberships in the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association. Those ties keep her connected to professional developments and local practice networks. Her current practice concentrates on matters that draw on her prosecutorial background and her mediation training.
