About N. John
N. John Rosecrans earned his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 2012. He is licensed to practice in Washington and began his legal career after law school. He worked his way into family court practice and took on roles that brought him before judges and commissioners across the county.
Early in his career he concentrated on matters that are central to family law. Over time he added courtroom work and motion practice to his repertoire. In 2022 he began serving on the King County Superior Court Family Law Motions Calendar as a Commissioner Pro Tempore. That assignment places him on the front lines of contested hearings and procedural decision-making in family cases.
His work as a pro tempore commissioner has shaped how he approaches disputes. The calendar requires quick, pragmatic rulings on emergency relief, temporary orders, discovery disputes and a steady stream of contested motions. Handling that pace has deepened his familiarity with the practical mechanics of family-court procedure and the tactical considerations that arise in high-stakes hearings.
At McKinley Irvin, Rosecrans practices out of the firm’s Kirkland and Bellevue offices. He represents clients in a range of domestic matters. Cases include divorce proceedings, child custody and visitation disputes, child and spousal support issues, and division of marital assets. He appears in hearings and pretrial proceedings, prepares motion work, and participates in settlement negotiations when cases move that way.
Colleagues describe him as steady under pressure in the courtroom and precise in written filings. His dual role as advocate and pro tempore officer gives him a perspective on how judges and commissioners manage caseloads and craft orders. That perspective informs his litigation planning and helps him anticipate procedural hurdles before they arise.
Outside of court appearances he spends time preparing detailed pleadings and declarations that support clients’ positions. He also handles the negotiation work that often resolves sensitive family matters without a trial. That mix of contested hearings and negotiated settlements reflects the typical flow of family practice in the region.
As of 2026 he continues to serve on the King County Family Law Motions Calendar and to handle family law matters from McKinley Irvin’s Kirkland and Bellevue offices. He maintains a family law practice at McKinley Irvin's Kirkland and Bellevue offices.
