About Brent

Brent Bohan built a legal education that spans environmental policy and law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in politics, philosophy and economics from the University of Washington Tacoma in 2005. He returned to Vermont Law School for graduate study, receiving an M.A. in Environmental Law and Policy in 2007 and a J.D. in 2010.

After law school, Bohan established a practice in Washington state. He is admitted to the Washington bar and maintains memberships that reflect a courtroom and mediation practice. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Federal Bar Association and the Federal Trial Bar, affiliations that align with handling matters that can proceed beyond state court.

Bohan is a partner at McKinley Irvin, a firm known for family-law representation across the Puget Sound region. His professional memberships point toward family law and trial work: he joined the American Bar Association’s family law and litigation sections in 2010 and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in 2024. He also holds memberships in local and state bar organizations, including the King County and Snohomish County bar associations’ family law and young lawyers divisions, the Washington State Association for Justice, and the Washington Mediation Association.

His courtroom experience is matched by work in alternative dispute resolution. Membership in the Washington Mediation Association and continued involvement in local bar family law sections indicate regular mediation practice alongside litigation. Colleagues describe him as someone who moves between negotiation and trial preparation, tailoring strategies to what each case requires.

At McKinley Irvin, Bohan participates in cases that involve custody, support, property division and related financial and parenting issues. He represents clients in contested hearings as well as negotiated settlements. The mix of federal and state memberships suggests he handles matters that may require appearances in both forums or involve complex financial questions.

Outside formal memberships, Bohan’s career reflects steady participation in the legal community. He has been active in metropolitan and statewide organizations since the early 2010s, contributing to discussions on family law practice, litigation tactics and mediation techniques.

He practices from McKinley Irvin offices in Kirkland, Seattle, Bellevue and Everett, focusing his work on family law litigation and dispute resolution.
