About Mr. William Thomas Fortune

Mr. William Thomas Fortune Jr. earned his J.D. from the William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1998. He completed his legal education at one of the country’s oldest law schools and moved directly into practice after graduation. The early choice of law school helped shape a long career in the law.

He began practicing law after receiving his degree. Over the years he has handled a broad array of matters and has maintained an active practice. His work has taken him through many of the routine challenges that come with advising clients, negotiating agreements and resolving disputes. Those years of hands-on work form the backbone of his professional profile.

Fortune’s career has combined client counseling and case work. He has spent time advising individuals and business clients alike. That mix has required attention to detail in document drafting, steadiness in negotiations and readiness to address contested matters when they arise. He has also worked to keep current on developments in statutory and case law since graduating from law school.

In day-to-day practice, Fortune handles a range of legal issues typical of experienced practitioners. He has been responsible for preparing legal papers, meeting with clients, and pursuing outcomes through negotiation or formal proceedings where necessary. Colleagues describe him as measured in approach and thorough in preparation; clients have sought his perspective on both transactional questions and disputes. He draws on nearly three decades of practical experience in approaching new matters.

Outside the office, Fortune’s background reflects the steady track of a career attorney who began practice in the late 1990s. He pursued a traditional route from law school to practice. Over time he adapted to changes in the profession and the evolving needs of those he represents. He has balanced case work with advisory matters and has continued professional development to stay current in areas that intersect with his practice.

He is currently based in an office where he advises and represents clients. His present practice is a general one, assisting individuals and businesses with a variety of civil legal matters.
