About Mr. Sean A.
Mr. Sean A. Black began a legal career that spans more than three decades after finishing law school at Emory University in 1992. He earned a B.A. in English from Mercer University in 1985 and proceeded to Emory for his J.D., completing the degree in 1992. Those early academic years set the stage for steady work in criminal defense and court practice.
After law school, Black joined the Law Office of James E. Cornwell, Jr., where he handled criminal matters and courtroom proceedings. That initial employment gave him experience in trial preparation and client advocacy. He remained there as he developed the practical skills that would define his next move.
In 1996 he founded Black Law Offices, LLC. He has run the firm since then. Over the years the office has handled a range of criminal cases, including DUI matters and other state-level prosecutions. He is admitted to practice before the courts in Georgia, the U.S. Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court, reflecting a practice that includes trial work and appellate filings.
Black’s professional affiliations trace the arc of his practice. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1997 and the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 1999. He joined the National College of DUI Defense in 2010 and the Federal Bar Association in 2013. He is also listed as a member of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Chicago Area, a connection that reaches back to 1992. These memberships indicate an ongoing engagement with the broader criminal defense community and continuing legal education.
Colleagues describe him as a lawyer who prefers courtroom work to desk-bound activities. He has experience handling jury trials at the state level and preparing appellate briefs. His admissions to federal appellate courts and the Supreme Court have allowed him to pursue appeals when cases require an elevated level of review.
Outside of court filings and client meetings, Black has maintained a steady practice at Black Law Offices, LLC. He continues to represent individuals charged with criminal offenses and DUI-related matters and to file appellate work when needed. He currently represents clients in criminal defense and DUI cases.
