About Mr. Robert Dale Leonard

Mr. Robert Dale Leonard II earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1997. He entered the profession after law school and built his practice around criminal defense work. Early training and coursework at Kentucky provided the foundation for courtroom practice and case preparation that have shaped his legal approach.

He expanded his professional involvement beyond individual cases by engaging with national and regional defense communities. He has been a member of DODD (Defense of Drinking Drivers) since 2007 and joined the National College for DUI Defense the same year. In 2009 he served as vice president of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Those roles put him in regular contact with other defense lawyers and trainers, and they informed his handling of challenging DUI and criminal matters.

In court he handles a range of criminal charges, including DUI cases that often hinge on scientific testing and police procedure. He has represented clients at preliminary hearings, motion practice, and jury trials. His work requires attention to procedural detail, an understanding of forensic testing, and preparation for contested hearings. He has developed experience in cross-examination and in presenting expert testimony when cases involve complex evidentiary issues.

Colleagues describe his practice as practical and case-oriented. He aims to identify the strongest routes for resolution, whether through negotiated outcomes or trial. That means dissecting reports, consulting experts when needed, and pressing for technical clarity in police procedures and laboratory methods. He is active in professional education circles and often uses those resources to stay current on developments in DUI defense and criminal procedure.

Outside court, he has participated in continuing legal education and peer programs sponsored by defense organizations. Those activities have kept him involved in discussions about evolving standards for breath and blood testing, field sobriety testing, and the legal standards that govern stops and arrests. They also connect him to a network of specialists who assist on contentious scientific issues.

He maintains a practice centered on criminal defense and DUI representation. He continues to work on cases that require careful evidentiary review and strategic courtroom advocacy. He currently concentrates his practice on criminal defense and DUI matters.
