About Mr. Richard A Sanders
Mr. Richard A Sanders Jr built his foundation in law at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, where he earned his J.D. He completed undergraduate studies in criminal justice at Georgia Southern University, part of the University System of Georgia. Those years shaped his interest in criminal law and courtroom practice.
Early in his legal training he worked as a law clerk for the Michigan Attorney General's Criminal Division in Lansing. The clerkship exposed him to criminal prosecutions and state-level litigation. He later interned in Savannah at Hunter MacLean Exley and Dunn, gaining experience in a busy regional practice and sharpening courtroom preparation skills.
By 2008 he was practicing in Savannah. He joined the Douglas G. Andrews Law Office and then worked with Andrews, Nye & Associates. He later practiced under the Andrews & Sanders name in Savannah, marking a move into a more established local presence. Those years covered a mix of trial work and client counseling in state courts.
Sanders is admitted to practice in Georgia and before several federal tribunals. His admissions include the 11th Circuit, the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He also serves as a Registered Mediator for general civil matters through the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, a role that places him in neutral procedural work as well as adversarial settings.
He maintains memberships in several professional organizations. They include the Georgia Bar Association, the Savannah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. He is also active in local networks such as Young Professionals of Savannah. These affiliations reflect ongoing engagement with both the local legal community and broader professional groups.
Sanders’s practice history crosses public and private roles. The early public-sector experience at the Michigan Attorney General's office gave him exposure to criminal procedure from the government side. His later private practice in Savannah centered on trial work and dispute resolution, and his mediator registration expanded his role in resolving civil disputes outside the courtroom.
He continues to practice from Andrews and Sanders Law Offices in Savannah. His work combines courtroom representation and mediation services for clients in state and federal matters, including cases that reach appellate tribunals and the nation’s highest court. He currently focuses his practice on criminal defense, civil litigation, and settlement work through mediation.
