About Mr. Joseph

Mr. Joseph Hankins built his path to the law through a steady academic progression. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Truman State University in 2000. He later completed his legal studies at George Mason University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2008.

His early steps in the legal profession began inside the courthouse. He served as a judicial law clerk for the Arlington County Circuit Court in 2008. That year on the bench exposed him to courtroom procedure, opinion drafting and the daily mechanics of trial and appellate practice. The clerkship provided a foundation he carried into private practice.

In 2009 he joined New & Lowinger, P.C., where he worked as an associate attorney. He spent several years there handling matters typical of a small firm atmosphere: client counseling, motions practice and court appearances. In 2013 he left to open his own firm, Hankins Law, LLC. Running a solo practice required shifting from casework alone to managing client intake, administrative tasks and the practical demands of a law office.

Over time Hankins expanded his admissions and professional reach. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, Indiana and Maryland. Those multi-jurisdictional credentials allow him to accept matters across state lines and to advise clients on issues that touch more than one state’s law. His background—courtroom experience as a clerk and several years in private firms—means he is familiar with legal research, drafting pleadings and preparing cases for hearing.

Colleagues describe him as deliberate in approach and pragmatic in courtroom settings. He has continued to refine the mechanics of litigation and client interaction since founding his firm. Outside of courtrooms and client meetings, his work involves the routine demands of a small practice: office management, client communication and compliance with state bar requirements. He currently represents clients through Hankins Law, LLC, serving matters arising in Virginia, Maryland and Indiana.
