About Mr James F.
Mr James F. Aspell graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1979 with a bachelor’s degree that combined English, biology and psychology. He earned his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law in 1983. Those formative years gave him a mix of liberal arts and legal training that shaped how he approaches client problems.
He entered private practice in Connecticut in the mid-1980s and began an early stretch of his career at Furniss, Quinn & O Brien, P.C. in 1987. That work placed him in the daily grind of litigation and client counseling. He handled files, appeared in court and learned to manage a busy docket.
In 2006 he opened his own firm and became the owner-managing lawyer of the Law Offices of James F. Aspell, P.C. Running a small firm meant shifting between casework and the business side of practice. He oversaw intake, guided litigation strategies and maintained relationships with clients across a range of matters. The firm has often taken cases that touch on workplace injury, disability claims and consumer insolvency.
A Connecticut Bar Association-recognized Workers’ Compensation Specialist, Aspell has been active in professional groups for many years. He has held membership in the Connecticut Bar Association and the Hartford County Bar Association since 1986. Starting in 2005 he joined national defense-oriented groups, including the Defense Research Institute, and was a member of the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association through 2008. Since 2006 he has also been affiliated with the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. Those memberships reflect a practice that has moved between representing employers and insurers at points, and representing claimants on others.
Clients and colleagues describe a lawyer who combines courtroom experience with procedural knowledge of administrative systems. He has managed cases in state workers’ compensation forums and in federal Social Security proceedings, and he has handled consumer bankruptcy matters. He practices in Connecticut and maintains an active role in the professional organizations that relate to those fields. He currently maintains a practice handling workers’ compensation, Social Security disability and consumer bankruptcy matters.
