About Mr. Garrett S.
Mr. Garrett S. Handy has spent two decades working in Utah’s civil courts. He trained in the state’s legal system early on. That foundation came during a year clerking for the Utah Court of Appeals soon after law school.
He earned his J.D. from Wake Forest University in 2002 after completing a B.A. in political science at the University of Utah in 1999. Those years set the stage for a career that moved quickly from internship to courtroom practice.
Handy joined Siegfried & Jensen in 2005, where he worked as an associate handling civil litigation matters. He opened a solo office under his own name in 2011 and then became a partner at Handy & Handy, PC in 2012. The sequence shows steady progression from junior associate to firm leadership.
His professional affiliations include long-standing membership in the Utah Association for Justice, a group he joined in 2005 and remains active in. That connection has kept him engaged with developments in state tort law and civil practice procedures.
Over the years Handy has handled a range of personal injury matters. He represents clients in cases arising from motor vehicle collisions, premises liability incidents, and insurance disputes. His work involves drafting pleadings, taking and defending depositions, negotiating settlements, and preparing cases for trial when needed.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in case preparation and straightforward in courtroom presentations. He has split his time between out-of-court negotiations and litigated matters. The balance allows him to pursue settlements when they serve a client’s interests and to take cases to trial when they do not.
Since becoming a partner at Handy & Handy, PC in 2012, he has overseen intake and case strategy for the firm’s personal injury practice. He previously maintained a solo practice under the Law Office of Garrett S. Handy, PC and continues to draw on that experience in running a small firm.
Handy remains based in Utah and continues to practice in state courts. He maintains a civil litigation practice centered on personal injury matters and client representation in Utah courts.
