About Mr. Frederick M.

Mr. Frederick M. Davis earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1993. He entered the legal field at a time of change and has a career that now spans more than three decades.

He built the foundations of his practice on the training he received at Pittsburgh. The law school years provided courtroom instruction, rigorous coursework and an introduction to client counseling. Those early experiences helped shape the way he approaches everyday legal problems.

Over the years his work moved toward public service. Since 2011 he has served as a volunteer lawyer with Legal Aid of North Carolina. That long-term involvement has put him on the front lines of civil legal services for low-income clients across the state. His volunteer work has been steady and sustained, year after year.

In the Legal Aid role he has taken on direct client representation, handled intake matters and offered courtroom advocacy when cases required it. The work frequently involves housing concerns, family law questions and benefits issues; it also includes counseling clients who face urgent civil problems. He has worked alongside staff attorneys and other volunteers to resolve cases through negotiation and, when necessary, litigation.

Colleagues describe his approach as practical and straightforward. He tends to break down complex issues into clear steps for clients. He is comfortable in hearings and tends to focus on outcomes that restore stability for people facing eviction, domestic disputes or loss of public benefits.

Outside of his volunteer hours he has maintained an active legal presence. He has balanced pro bono work with his other professional responsibilities, keeping one foot in community service and the other in everyday practice. That balance has defined much of his recent career.

Today he continues to serve clients through Legal Aid of North Carolina while keeping an active legal practice. His work concentrates on civil legal assistance and pro bono representation for low-income individuals and families.
