About Mr Eric S

Mr Eric S Southward trained in Indiana and began his legal education at Buena Vista University, where he studied political science and economics. He earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1995. Those academic years set the course for a practice that would cross state lines and district courts.

His early career included a role at Busby & Associates beginning in 2007, where he practiced as a bankruptcy lawyer. He joined organized groups of practitioners that year, becoming a member of the Houston Area Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Lawyers, memberships he maintains. In 2019 he took on managing lawyer responsibilities, listed at both Busby & Southward and an independent practice identified as Eric Southward Houston Heights Bankruptcy.

Mr Southward is admitted to practice in Indiana and before federal courts that include the Southern District of Texas, the Northern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Indiana. Those admissions reflect a practice that has handled filings and proceedings across several jurisdictions rather than confined to a single state. His courtroom work and filings have been concentrated in consumer bankruptcy forums and the procedural tracks those courts follow.

Colleagues and clients describe a straightforward approach to bankruptcy work. He represents individuals in consumer bankruptcy cases and provides counsel on filing options, schedules and creditor negotiations. His memberships in regional and national consumer bankruptcy organizations indicate ongoing engagement with practice developments and peer networks. He has moved between firm roles and an independent office, carrying management responsibilities that include case supervision and practice administration.

Throughout his career he has balanced casework with running a small practice structure. That has meant splitting time between client counseling, court appearances and the administrative work of a managing lawyer. He operates under the name Eric Southward, Houston Heights Bankruptcy Lawyer, maintaining a presence in the Houston area. He currently focuses his practice on consumer bankruptcy matters.
