About Mr. Derrick P.

Mr. Derrick P. Fellows earned his Juris Doctor from the College of William and Mary in 2008 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies at the same institution in 2002. He returned to William and Mary for law school after an undergraduate period that combined language study with liberal arts coursework. The twin degrees supply a clear through-line: close reading, precise writing and an eye for cultural context.

At William and Mary, Fellows developed skills that he has carried into practice. His undergraduate study of Hispanic language and culture broadened his understanding of cross-cultural communication. The law degree added training in legal analysis, procedure and advocacy. Those elements inform how he frames legal problems and explains them to clients.

Fellows is licensed to practice in Virginia. He has worked with individuals and organizations on matters arising under state law. He handles intake, counsels clients on options and represents them in filings and hearings when necessary. He approaches each matter by breaking issues into manageable parts and outlining the next steps in clear terms.

Colleagues describe Fellows as steady and methodical in his work. He favors careful preparation over improvisation. That approach shows in pleadings, client correspondence and in courtroom settings. He also draws on his language background when cases involve Spanish-speaking parties or materials in Spanish, helping to bridge communication gaps when they arise.

Outside of direct case work, Fellows has maintained connections to legal education and professional development opportunities. He attends continuing legal education events and follows changes in Virginia law and court procedure so his advice reflects current rules and precedent. He also invests time in practical problem solving, such as identifying documents and evidence that matter most to a client’s position.

Current practice centers on representing clients in Virginia and advising them through the stages of a legal matter, from initial assessment to resolution. He currently practices law in Virginia, focusing on matters at the state level.
