About Mr. Daniel
Mr. Daniel McKenzie trained as a sociologist before he turned to the law. He earned a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1997 and completed his J.D. at Northwestern University School of Law in 2003. Those academic years shaped a pragmatic approach to legal problems and a habit of looking for patterns beneath complex facts.
He began his legal career in 2003 as an associate at Horwitz, Horwitz & Associates. That early period provided day-to-day exposure to client work and courtroom procedure. In 2007 he joined Burg Simpson Eldredge Hersh & Jardine as an associate. There he worked alongside experienced litigators and developed skills in case preparation, pleadings and negotiation.
In 2013 he opened The McKenzie Law Office, LLC and serves as owner and managing lawyer. Building a small firm required him to move beyond casework into practice management. He oversees client intake, supervises support staff and directs litigation strategy. Running his own practice also allowed him to shape how clients are counseled and how files are handled from intake to resolution.
He is admitted to practice in Colorado and Illinois. Over the years he has represented individuals and businesses in state courts across those jurisdictions. His approach tends to be practical. He emphasizes clear explanations for clients, focused pretrial work and careful preparation for hearings or settlement talks. Colleagues describe him as methodical in building a case file and attentive to scheduling and deadlines.
Outside the office he has maintained ties to the legal communities in both states and continues to refine how his office manages disputes and client relationships.
