About Mr Charles S
Mr Charles S Watson built a legal foundation over decades of steady practice and public service. He earned a B.S. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1974 and completed his J.D. at Drake University Law School in 1980. Those years framed his entry into practice and shaped an approach that values careful analysis and procedural clarity.
He began his legal career in private practice. In 1983 he joined McConnell, Kennedy, Quinn & Johnston as an associate. Two years later he moved into public service as an Assistant Lawyer General for the State of Illinois. That role gave him courtroom exposure and experience handling matters on the government's side of the docket. After returning to private practice, he served as an associate at Feldman, Wasser, Draper & Benson in 1991.
In 1995 he established Watson Law and has operated the firm since then. Leading a small firm required shifting from casework alone to managing client relationships, staff and the business side of a law office. Over time he has combined litigation experience from the public sector with the responsibilities of running a practice in Springfield.
His professional affiliations reflect an interest in workplace law. He is a current member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association and NELA - Illinois. He also maintains ties to the Sangamon County Bar Association. Those memberships place him in professional circles that address employment matters, civil litigation procedures and local practice concerns.
Colleagues describe him as steady and methodical in the handling of files. Courtroom work, administrative hearings and negotiated resolutions are all elements of his practice history. He has represented clients in both government and private settings and has handled matters that required an understanding of regulatory frameworks as well as civil procedure.
Outside the courtroom he has navigated the practical tasks of running a law firm for more than two decades. That work includes mentoring younger attorneys and working through the operational decisions every small firm faces. He has balanced those responsibilities while maintaining memberships in state and national bar groups.
Mr Charles S Watson continues to practice in Illinois through Watson Law. He focuses his practice on employment law matters and related civil litigation in Illinois.
