About Michelle M.

Michelle M. Kostun trained at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she combined classroom study with practical experience early in her career. While still in law school she worked as a legal intern at the Innocence Project and spent a summer as an associate at Spodek & Barrett. Those early placements introduced her to courtroom work and investigative case preparation.

After graduating, Kostun began practicing in New York. Her earliest listed firm role was at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP in 2000. She moved through a series of firm positions over the next several years, joining Dudley, Topper and Feuerzeig LLP in 2003 and then Lackey Hershman LLP in 2004. The record shows she launched her own practice in 2007 when she founded the Law Office of Michelle Kostun. In 2011 she also worked at the Law Office of Becky Beaver.

Her career path mixes large-firm experience and small-practice independence. That background gave her exposure to transactional and litigation settings, and to different practice cultures. Colleagues from each stage noted her ease with both courtroom preparation and client-facing responsibilities. The early public-interest work at the Innocence Project remains a visible thread in her résumé; it shaped how she approaches case investigation and client interviews.

Kostun is licensed to practice in Texas, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Those admissions allow her to appear in state and federal matters across several jurisdictions. She has handled matters that required coordination across courts and legal systems. Her multi-jurisdictional practice reflects the geographies where she has worked and maintains professional ties.

In recent years she has split time between running a small office and collaborating with other lawyers on complex matters. Her office provides direct client representation and also serves as a base for coordinated work with co-counsel in other states and territories. She manages case intake, oversees document preparation, and handles court filings in the jurisdictions where she is admitted.

Kostun’s record is notable for steady movement between firm roles and independent practice, and for maintaining bar admissions in multiple places. She continues to practice from the Law Office of Michelle Kostun, handling client matters in the jurisdictions where she holds licenses. Her current practice focuses on representing clients in matters arising in Texas, New York and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
