About Michael S.
Michael S. Anderson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah before earning a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2012. He studied in New York at one of the nation's prominent law schools, then returned to Utah to pursue a legal career that blends media, entertainment and business issues. His academic background anchors a practice that sits at the intersection of creative industries and local commerce.
After law school, Anderson built a practice in Utah and began engaging with civic and professional groups across the state. He took on roles that connect the legal community to the media and the arts. Over time those roles expanded beyond membership to include several leadership posts on committees and boards concerned with judicial outreach, economic development and the creative sector.
Anderson holds current leadership roles on multiple public and professional bodies. He serves as Vice Chair of the Salt Lake County Community & Economic Development Advisory Council. He co-chairs the Bench-Media Subcommittee of the Utah Judicial Council and represents legal media interests on the Utah Judicial Council Standing Committee on Judicial Outreach. Within the Utah State Bar's Entertainment Law Section, he served as Secretary in 2018–19 and now serves as Treasurer. He is also involved with the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Utah program.
His board and committee work extends into civic and industry organizations. Anderson sits on the boards of the Utah Independent Business Coalition and the Utah Arts Alliance. He is part of the Meritas Global Entertainment Law Practice Group steering committee and maintains membership in the Media Law Resource Center and the David K. Watkiss – Sutherland II Inn of Court. He is listed as a member of the ACLU of Utah and takes part in conversations that bridge law, policy and cultural institutions.
Those commitments shape the contours of Anderson’s practice. He handles matters for clients in the entertainment and media sectors, and he advises business clients connected to the creative economy. He also participates in bench-media dialogue and judicial outreach projects that affect how courts and newsrooms interact. His work combines transactional and regulatory elements alongside engagement in community and industry governance.
Anderson currently concentrates his practice on entertainment and media law, advising creative industry clients and addressing related commercial and regulatory matters.
