About Michael Peter

Michael Peter Brodsky built an uncommon law path that begins in music and ends in criminal courtrooms. He studied music performance at Berklee College of Music in 1980. He later earned a B.S. in political science from Northeastern University in 1992 after attending in 1990, and he received his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1996 following studies that began in 1993. Those varied years mark a career that moved from performance to policy to litigation.

After law school, Brodsky established himself in Washington. He became a member of the Washington State Bar Association in 1998 and the same year joined the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He expanded his professional network with membership in the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1999 and later joined the Whatcom County State Bar Association in 2003. The memberships map a steady commitment to the criminal defense bar at local, state and national levels.

His courtroom work was shaped by formal training as well as practice. He attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy in 1997, a program known for practical trial skills. In 2002 he went to the National Criminal Defense College and in 2005 he attended the National College for DUI Defense. Those courses reinforced trial technique, case strategy and the particular evidentiary issues that appear in DUI prosecutions.

Colleagues describe Brodsky as pragmatic in his approach to cases. He tends to favor clear preparation and repeated rehearsal of testimony and motions. That orientation shows in the types of matters he handles. Much of his docket has involved criminal defense and DUI-related matters; clients range from first-time offenders to those facing serious felony charges.

Outside the courtroom, Brodsky’s background in music remains a point of reference. The discipline of performance and the need to read an audience translate to jury work, he has said in past remarks. He also participates in professional gatherings where trial tactics and recent case law are discussed, often bringing a practical viewpoint rather than a theoretical one.

Today Brodsky continues to practice in Washington. He represents clients in criminal cases and handles DUI matters across the state. He handles criminal defense and DUI cases in Washington.
