About Michael
Michael McGuffee graduated from Georgia State University College of Law in 2013 after completing his undergraduate studies at Florida State University’s Panama City campus in 2009. He followed a path that moved from student journalism into law. Early roles in media and communications preceded his legal training and helped shape his approach to case work.
His first professional years included stints as a sports writer for The Tampa Tribune and a public relations intern at 180 Communications in 2007. He then served as editor-in-chief of the FSView & Florida Flambeau in 2008. Those roles taught him to write clearly and to manage competing deadlines. They also gave him experience in fact-checking and public-facing communication that he later applied to legal work.
While still a law student and shortly thereafter, McGuffee held several positions in law firms and courts. In 2011 he worked as a legal assistant and as a law clerk. The same year he became a registered mediator for the Fulton County Magistrate Court. In 2012 he returned to hands-on legal training as a legal intern at Shepherd Law, LLC.
After earning his J.D., McGuffee joined Schenk Smith LLC in 2013. He practiced there initially as a lawyer and then moved to Poole Huffman, LLC in 2014 where he took on trial work. His resume lists a steady progression from support roles to front-line litigation, with courtroom experience beginning in the mid-2010s.
McGuffee holds admission in the State of Georgia and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He maintains membership in the State Bar of Georgia. His background as a registered mediator adds a procedural dimension to his litigation practice, giving him experience in settlement processes as well as trial advocacy.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparation and direct in courtroom presentation. He blends early-career experience in newsrooms and public relations with conventional litigation training. That combination informs his written work and oral argument. Cases he handles reflect civil litigation practice in Georgia state courts and federal court in the Northern District.
McGuffee is based at Poole Huffman, LLC. He practices civil litigation in Georgia and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, where he focuses on trial and dispute resolution work.
