About Michael
Michael Liptrot earned a B.A. in Law & Society from American University in 2010 and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2013. His academic path combined social science and legal training and laid the groundwork for a practice that spans state and federal courts in the New York region.
He began his legal career as an associate at the Law Offices of Candi J. Fulop in 2014. That role gave him early courtroom exposure and experience handling client matters day to day. In 2017 he moved into a supervisory role at Gorlick, Kravitz & Listhaus, PC, where he oversaw other lawyers and managed larger caseloads.
In 2022 Liptrot joined Tully Rinckey PLLC as senior counsel. The title reflects a progression from front-line case handling to a position that combines case strategy, file oversight, and mentoring junior attorneys. He is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and holds admission to the U.S. District Court for both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Liptrot completed a divorce mediation certification through the Center for Mediation & Training. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation. In 2015 he volunteered as a lawyer with the Bronx Housing Court Resource Center, an experience that brought him into direct contact with housing and tenant matters at the community level.
Throughout his career Liptrot has handled matters that touch on family law and dispute resolution, and he has combined litigation work with mediated settlements. His federal admissions allow him to bring certain matters into the district courts, while his mediation training informs efforts to resolve disputes outside of trial.
Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and thorough in preparation. He has moved steadily from associate to supervisory roles and now to a senior counsel position, carrying responsibility for complex files and for advising less experienced lawyers. He maintains memberships in professional organizations that align with his mediation and family law interests.
He currently practices at Tully Rinckey PLLC, holding admissions in New York and New Jersey and in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. His practice centers on family law matters and divorce mediation.
