About Michael James Rogers
Michael James Rogers Jr. followed a steady path into the courtroom. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas - Pan American before completing his law degree at St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2012.
He began his legal career in public service. In 2016 he served as a prosecutor at the Bexar County District Lawyer’s Office, where he handled criminal matters on the state’s behalf. That role gave him direct experience with charging decisions, plea negotiations and court procedures.
By 2019 he had moved into private practice as a lawyer at Rogers & Greehey, PLLC. The switch from the prosecutor’s table to defense work is not uncommon, but it does change the perspective. He brings to his defense work an understanding of how cases are prepared and presented by the state.
Rogers is active in legal associations that reflect his interests in criminal law. He holds membership in Phi Delta Phi, the San Antonio Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Hidalgo County Bar Association. Those affiliations keep him connected to peers and to developments in criminal practice across the region.
His professional experience spans both sides of criminal cases. As a former prosecutor he learned trial procedures and the demands of managing courtroom calendars. As a defense lawyer he applies that background to advising clients, negotiating outcomes and contesting charges when necessary. He handles arraignments, pretrial motions, plea discussions and trials in state courts across Texas.
Colleagues describe him as practical in the courtroom and methodical in case preparation. He draws on courtroom experience rather than theory when assessing risk and advising clients. That approach shapes how he frames defenses and evaluates offers from prosecutors.
Outside the courtroom he maintains ties to the legal community through continuing education and association work. He participates in local and state-level groups that focus on defense practice and professional standards.
He practices law in Texas at Rogers & Greehey, PLLC. His current work centers on criminal defense, using experience from both prosecution and private practice to represent clients in state criminal matters.
