About Michael J. Mick

Michael J. Mick McGirr built a legal foundation in two different parts of the country. He earned a B.S. in political science from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 2005 and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2011. Those degrees bookend a period of practical training and early courtroom exposure that shaped his approach to disputes and debt work.

His first professional legal experience came as a law clerk at the Maricopa County Lawyers Office in 2010. That public-sector position placed him inside county government operations and gave him firsthand exposure to how local legal systems handle claims and enforcement. After law school he moved into private practice and, in 2012, took on the role of managing lawyer for commercial collections at the Law Offices of Mark A. Kirkorsky. There he oversaw commercial-collections matters and worked on processes related to judgment recovery and creditor claims.

McGirr continued in private practice as an associate lawyer at Maxwell & Morgan, P.C. in 2016. The following year he founded Phocus Law. He opened the firm in Arizona and set a course to handle matters arising from business disputes over unpaid accounts and related enforcement. He has held membership in the Maricopa County Bar Association since 2017. Earlier in his career he served as chairperson of the CFDD Division of the National Association of Credit Managers from 2012 to 2016, a role that placed him in regular contact with credit professionals and creditor organizations.

Those varied posts—county law clerk, collections manager, associate attorney, and firm founder—inform how he approaches cases. His background crosses public and private practice, and he often draws on procedural knowledge developed in county work when advising clients in commercial contexts. The collection-focused roles and involvement with credit-manager groups provided sustained exposure to the mechanics of creditor remedies and post-judgment procedures.

At Phocus Law, McGirr handles matters that arise from commercial credit and unpaid obligations. He represents creditors and businesses in collection efforts, judgment enforcement, and related litigation in Arizona. His practice reflects years spent on both sides of collection processes and an ongoing engagement with the credit-management community. He currently practices at Phocus Law in Arizona, where he concentrates on commercial collections and creditor-side representation.
