About Michael
Michael Burke earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1987. He entered law school after undergraduate work and completed his degree in the mid-1980s. The credential set the stage for an early career in appellate and federal court chambers.
He served as a judicial law clerk on two federal benches. One clerkship was with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and another was with the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Those posts exposed him to complex briefing and opinion drafting at both trial and appellate levels. He is admitted to practice in California and before the Ninth Circuit.
After his clerkships he worked in private practice at two established firms. His early firm appointments included Morrison & Foerster and Kinsella Boesch Fujikawa & Towle, where he handled litigation and courtroom matters for corporate and individual clients. Those years in firm practice preceded a move into roles that combined advocacy, alternative dispute resolution and public service.
Burke has served as a delegate to the State Bar of California. He is also a certified mediator for the Los Angeles County Bar Association and has worked as a mediator in matters referred to the bar. He holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a peer-review indicator often noted in professional directories. He has been active as a speaker and an author for the American Law Institute and has lectured for the Continuing Education of the Bar on topics tied to courtroom practice and dispute resolution.
Professional memberships have complemented his practice. He maintains current memberships in the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the American Bar Association and the Forum for Corporate Directors. Those affiliations reflect a practice touchpoint that includes business litigation, corporate governance and privacy-related issues.
In 2001 he founded The Burke Law Office and has served since as its principal lawyer. The firm operates offices in Newport Beach and Los Angeles. He combines litigation and mediation work and continues to accept matters that require courtroom representation, negotiated resolution or advisory counsel. He practices from offices in Newport Beach and Los Angeles, concentrating on litigation, mediation and advisory work.
