About Michael A.
Michael A. Winkleman earned his law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law, completing his J.D. in 2006. He entered the legal profession after law school and built a practice that spans trials and appeals. Early academic years gave him the groundwork; the courtroom provided the next chapters.
He is a partner at Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., where he has served as a trial and appellate lawyer. He tries cases before juries and argues matters on appeal. He also appears in federal appellate courts, including the Eleventh Circuit, and practices in Florida state courts.
Winkleman’s work blends courtroom presence with written advocacy. At trial he manages evidence, witnesses and strategy. At the appellate level he prepares briefs and presents oral argument. Those are different skill sets. He has built both.
Professional associations form a steady part of his calendar. He holds memberships in the American Bar Association and the Dade County Bar Association. He is active in the Appellate Committee of the Florida Justice Association and is a member of the Miami Dade Justice Association. His involvement extends into maritime circles through the Florida Admiralty Trial Lawyers Association and the Southeastern Admiralty Lawyers Institute.
The list of associations reflects a practice that often intersects admiralty and appellate law. Admiralty litigation brings its own procedures, remedies and deadlines. Appellate practice requires attention to record development and legal standard. He navigates both worlds in the representation he offers his clients.
Colleagues and opposing counsel describe his days in court and at the appellate podium as methodical. He approaches pleadings and briefs with the same attention he gives a jury charge. The work demands clarity. He aims to make complex legal and factual questions understandable to judges and jurors alike.
Outside of litigation, he contributes to discussions and committees that shape appellate practice at the state level. He attends association meetings, presents on procedural topics and participates in panels that address case law developments. Those activities keep him engaged with recent decisions and procedural trends.
Today he continues to practice at Lipcon, Margulies & Winkleman, P.A., handling trial and appellate matters, including admiralty and maritime litigation, in Florida and in the Eleventh Circuit.
